Nickeil Alexander-Walker’s 6-of-14 3-point shooting powered Atlanta to a 19-of-49 deluge from long range, and the visiting Hawks scored a 120-105 win over the Washington Wizards on Wednesday.
Seven Atlanta players sank at least one triple, and five knocked down two or more. Alexander-Walker led the way, doing much of his offensive work from beyond the arc on the way to a game-high-matching 26 points.
In a sequence reflective of the game’s complexion overall, Anthony Davis — who scored 26 points for the Wizards — scored on the interior to pull Washington to within six points midway through the third quarter.
On the ensuing possession, Alexander-Walker drilled a triple to push the lead back to nine.
Later in the period, former Hawk Trae Young made one of Washington’s six successful 3-pointers on 26 attempts. Corey Kispert responded immediately with a trey at the other end.
The long-range shooting disparity helped Atlanta negate a 62-50 Washington advantage on points in the paint. Kyshawn George contributed to the Wizards’ scoring both inside and outside, going 7-for-7 on 2-point tries and 3-for-7 from long range.
George finished with 25 points in the loss. Young, facing his ex-team for the first time since a January trade, scored 18 points. Alex Sarr compiled 11 points and nine rebounds, and Davis pulled down a team-best 10 boards.
Six Hawks reached double-figure scoring, most dialing it up from deep. Aaron Wiggins shot 3-for-7 from outside en route to 15 points off the bench, and Onyeka Okongwu hit both of his long-range attempts while posting 14 points and 16 rebounds.
Atlanta’s Dyson Daniels amassed eight points, eight assists and 16 rebounds, helping the Hawks finish with a 63-48 edge on the glass. The Hawks logged their third victory in four games while the Wizards had a two-game winning streak snapped.
The same two teams face again on Friday in Atlanta for an NBA Cup contest.
