The legendary frontman for The Who, Roger Daltrey, started work on his new solo album a few years ago. But in 2015, Daltrey contracted viral meningitis, derailing the project. Daltrey wasn’t sure he wanted to go back to finish the project when he got physically better, but his longtime Who collaborator and friend Pete Townshend talked him into it.
So we’ll have Pete to thank or blame for Daltrey’s first solo album in 26 years, “As Long As I Have You,” which was released today. Pete appears on seven of the 12 songs on the new album. so if you love The Who like I do, you should like the sound of Roger’s solo stuff. Roger performs mostly covers on it, including songs by Stephen Stills and Stevie Wonder. All but two of the songs are covers. The two new original songs by Roger are “Certified Rose” and “Always Heading Home.” Listen below to one of the songs, “Where Is A Man To Go?” from the album.
