The 2018 Rock and Roll Hall of Fame Class officially got inducted Saturday night at the ceremony and concert in Cleveland over the weekend. It’ll be shown on TV in May on HBO.
Of our classic rock bands that got in, Bon Jovi was probably the most over due. As Howard Stern said in the band’s induction speech, with 130 millions albums sold it shouldn’t have been that tough a decision. Below’s a short video recap of their night.

For The Cars, the group founded by Ric Ocasek and the late Benjamin Orr in the Midwest (Cleveland, Columbus, Ann Arbor) before heading East to Boston to find rock stardom, the tone was more grateful. Ric Ocasek’s biggest regret was that his mate, Ben Orr, wasn’t there to enjoy it.
Dire Straits had no one to induct them, so their bass player, John Illsley, did the induction and acceptance speech. Weird. See the post show press conference with the three members who showed up below. Another highlight was the music of the late Tom Petty being recognized, with The Killers opening the show covering Petty’s “American Girl,” slipping in a little “Free Fallin’” at the end.
