Hard to believe it’s been 35 years since we first heard ZZ Top’s breakthrough album “Eliminator” hit the scene back on March 23,1983. Some of the bands biggest hits have come from this amazing album, including Legs, Sharp Dressed Man, Gimme All Your Lovin’, Got Me Under Pressure, and even the slightly wacky, beat-driven tune all about those ready to eat, TV Dinners. Eliminator has sold more than 10 million copies in the United States and is the band’s best top selling album.
ZZ Top formed back in 1969 in Houston, TX and Dusty, Billy & Frank have been rockin’ in the band pretty much ever since. 1983 was the era when MTV had supreme reign over the music video world and the Texas Trio found them selves quite a nice little home on the music channel. Videos like Gimme All Your Lovin’, Sharp Dressed Man, and the sci-fi themed TV Dinners could all be found rocking your TV. And what about that car? Ya, The Eliminator car! A 1933 fully restored Ford Coupe! The car first made its appearance on the cover of “Eliminator” and it was also used as the symbol for the band’s world tour that followed Eliminator’s release. The car has appeared in multiple videos including their very first “Gimme All Your Lovin’.”
ZZ Top is one of the worlds most iconic rock bands and we here at 95-5 GLO are proud to be celebrating the 35th anniversary of the album that gave us all so many timeless tunes form the band. Happy 35th anniversary, Eliminator!
