At a luncheon for the Green Bay Chamber of Commerce, Green Bay Packers coach Mike McCarthy said he was going to “kick the Bears ass” on Sunday….and thats exactly what he did as the Packers beat the Bears 31-23 in the season opener at Soldier Field.
“Green Bay is a pretty good football team. We were going to have to be near-flawless to beat them and we didn’t quite reach that. But I think there were a lot of positive things that we’ll be able to build on as a football team moving forward.” -Bears coach John Fox.
To their credit, the Bears hung tough for most of the game behind a great game from running back Matt Forte who rushed for 141 yards and a touchdown. QB Jay Cutler played well, but gave up a costly interception to to Packers linebacker Clay Matthews in the fourth quarter which sealed the Bears fate. Cutler threw for 225 yards, 1 TD and 1 INT.
