Sad news to report today, 95-5, G-L-O Classic Rock Fans, as guitarist, singer, songwriter Rick Derringer has died at the age of 77. Derringer’s wife, Jenda Derringer, told TMZ he died “peacefully” in his sleep after being taken off life support following a medical issue. Derringer was very successful in a variety of ways as a musician, spanning multiple decades- he was in the band ‘The McCoy’s’ in the 1960’s with his Brother, Randy, who had a #1 song with “Hang On Sloopy.” Derringer also played with Johnny and Edgar Winter in the 1970’s, playing on multiple albums with both. He released his first solo album ‘All American Boy’ in 1973, which spawned his big song, “Rock N’ Roll Hoochie Koo”, which reached number 23 on the Hot 100 chart. His guitar chops were legendary, and he influenced a generation of players along the way. Derringer also played with Steely Dan, and produced albums by Weird Al Yankovic.
