Founding Allman Brothers Band Guitarist And Vocalist Dickey Betts Dead At 80

Sad day today, Peoria Rock music fans. Co-founding guitarist, vocalist and songwriter for The Allman Brothers Band, Dickey Betts, has died at the age of 80. Betts manager David Spero told Rolling Stone Magazine that Betts had cancer and obstructive pulmonary disease. A sad day indeed for music fans. Betts wrote the legendary song, “Ramblin’ Man”, and was a force in the band for years and helped shape the sound of Southern Rock. Betts guided the Allmans with Gregg Allman after the tragic passing of Duane Allman and Berry Oakley in the early 1970’s.
