Former Secretary Of State And Joint Chiefs Chairman Colin Powell Dead At 84

Former Four-Star General, Chairman of the Joint Chiefs Of Staff and Secretary Of State Colin Powell has passed away at the age of 84, due to complications from multiple myeloma and Covid-19. Powell served under President George W. Bush as the 65th Secretary Of State from 2001 thru 2005. Powell spent 35 years in the Army and rose to the rank of Four-Star General before becoming the first African American Chairman of the Joints Chiefs Of Staff, and the first African American Secretary Of State. His leadership in the invasion of Kuwait to oust the Iraqi Army in 1991 made him a popular candidate to run for President, a decision that he ultimately decided against. His legacy became strained in 2003 after his appearance in front of the U.N. Security Council on the Iraq War. The family’s announcement said, “We have lost a remarkable and loving husband, father and grandfather and a great American.”
