In college football, THE GAME in the Midwest each year is the rivalry game between Ohio State and Michigan, though it’s been lopsided in favor of the Buckeyes recently. In our area, the high school version of THE GAME is Metamora vs. Washington.
Those two powerhouses have ruled the Mid Illini generally for the past quarter century. This year, neither team is likely to win the conference championship – Dunlap or Pekin will be the champs it looks like – but that doesn’t take away the luster of the two, football-crazy, neighboring cities, fans and programs. 4-3 Washington hosts 3-4 Metamora on our main Super Nutrition Game of the Week Friday night. Pregame’s at 7p, featuring coaches interviews. Former Peoria Journal Star writer Aaron Ferguson fills in for Tony again before Ferguson leaves for NW Indiana to take a new sports writer’s position.
Our secondary game will come from Chillicothe, where the unbeaten, 7-0, IVC Grey Ghosts continue their quest for a perfect regular season against Bloomington Central Catholic. Tom Meredith will be there with some live play by play and scoring updates.
