The high school football season has arrived, and there’s only one radio station to turn to for comprehensive coverage every Friday night during the regular season and straight on into the playoffs – 95.5, GLO. We’re ready to bring you our 9th season of Super Nutrition Red Zone Game of the Week action on Friday night, August 30th, when we focus our coverage on two small school matchups.

We provide live coverage from two games every Friday night, with former Farmington and Illinois lineman and Peoria Pirates coach Tony Johnson and I calling our main game, while veteran sports/radio guy Tom Meredith is ready with live play by play and scoring updates from our secondary game in Farmington.

Friday (8/30), our main game is the Route 9 Rilvary: Dee Mack at Tremont at 7p, with our pregame show beginning at 6:30p, featuring my interviews with the Chiefs head coach Job Linboom and Turks head coach Zach Zehr, both state champion coaches.

Last year, we opened with this game also, and it was a thriller. Dee Mack debuted its new, million dollar-plus Jim McDonald Field and hung on for a tight win. Dee Mack slipped up in their close games last year and slid to 3-6, uncharacteristically missing the playoffs. Dee Mack is a traditional state small school powerhouse (2016 Class 2A state champs) and looks to get back in that mode, though the Chiefs lost most of their starters from a year ago to graduation.

Tremont notched a 5-4 record a year ago, but missed the playoffs on the IHSA points system tie-breaker. The improving Turks are coached by former Dee Mack star Zach Zehr, who won a Class 1A state championship as head coach of Arcola in 2015. Tremont improved from 2 to 5 wins in Zehr’s second season, and the program returns the bulk of its starters from last season.

Pregame show starts Friday (8/30) at 6:30p, kickoff from Tremont is 7 O’Clock. Tom will cover the other great small-school matchup between tradition powers, Stark County and Farmington from the Farmers field.
