Washington finished off its perfect football season with a lopsided win over East Peoria. The Mid Illini champion Panthers have been the AP Poll #1-rated team in Class 5A all season. However, Washington got bumped to Class 6A in the playoffs and drew a program that’s won 10 state football championships. The IHSA seeding formula did neither Washington, nor Mid Illini second place team, Metamora, any favors.

9-0 Washington hosts New Lenox Providence Catholic Friday night at 7 pm, our Super Nutrition Red Zone Game of the week. 8-1 Metamora plays host on Saturday night to 5-4 Joliet Catholic, the 13-time state champion.

The Panthers foe, 15th-seeded Providence Catholic, is 5-4, but one of those losses was a forfeit. The Celtics have won 10 state football titles, most recently in 2014 in Class 7A. Listen for the pregame show at 6:30 pm, with Panthers HFC Darrell Crouch’s interview and the return of Tony Johnson as color analyst.
