Peoria High And Notre Dame Battle In Week 2 Super Nutrition GOW Friday

Week two of the high school football season features a rematch of an IHSA record-setting game from last September. A year ago, Notre Dame roared to a huge first quarter lead over the Lions, only to watch Peoria High come back from 34 points down to win, 82-80, in the highest scoring game in Illinois high school history when both teams scored. The teams played one overtime session.

In that game, Notre Dame’s Logan Cover ran wild for 319 yards and 4 touchdowns in a losing effort. He’ll be back for the Irish, who look to bounce back after an opening loss to Class 6A, state-ranked Normal West on the road, 44-13.

Peoria High looked impressive in its 48-14 opening night win at Peoria Stadium over Champaign Centennial. The Lions’ starters blew out to a 30-0 lead before the game got sloppy with first-time varsity players finishing out the rout.

Former Illini and Farmington lineman Tony Johnson and I will call the game from Richwoods High School, starting with the pregame show at 6:30 pm, with interviews from both head coaches.

Tom Meredith will be at Pekin’s Memorial Stadium for our secondary game of the week. The Dragons cruised to a lopsided week one win on the road at Oak Forrest. Now, Pekin hosts perennial state power, Sterling, a team that’s lost just one game each of the past two seasons (23-2).
