ICYMI, Friday night in New York City, Fleetwood Mac became the first band to be honored as the MusiCares Person of the Year, an award traditionally given to an individual.
Fleetwood Mac earned the honor for its tremendous, creative, musical accomplishments and its work with charities, including MusiCares, an organization that aids musicians who’ve fallen on hard times financially or medically. Here’s a review of the show that kicked off Grammy weekend in New York.
The “big five” members of the band from its glory, hit-making days were on hand: Mick Fleetwood, Stevie Nicks, Lindsay Buckingham, Christine McVie and John McVie. Fleetwood Mac was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame 20 years ago and has sold over 100 million albums. “Rumours” is still one of my desert island-worthy, favorite albums of all time.
The stars were out to honor Fleetwood Mac, a couple nights ahead of last night’s Grammy Awards in NYC. Many current stars (Little Big Town, Allison Krauss, Imagine Dragons and Keith Urban, for starters) performed at the concert/show, as did the band itself played a five-song set. Former President Bill Clinton was one of dignitaries who extolled the Mac’s virtues.
Here’s a couple videos from the evening.
