Are you ready for some (more) football?! Of course, you are. The second season, the high school football playoffs kickoff Friday night, and the Red Zone Game of the Week will broadcast live as long as one of our area teams is still alive and kicking in the post season.

Friday night, we’ll be in Dunlap to see the 9-0 Eagles first-round matchup with 5-4 Streator. Pregame show, featuring an interview with Dunlap HFC Brett Cazalet, starts at 7 pm, with the kickoff at 7:30 pm.

It’s been a memorable ride already for unbeaten Dunlap. The Eagles completed their first 9-0 regular season since 1992, capturing their first Mid Illini Conference football championship since joining the league in 2000.

Congratulations are also in order for the other area 9-0 team: Farmington. The Farmers beat Lewistown last Friday to earn a second straight, unbeaten regular season.

The Class 5A field is filled with our area large school teams: Dunlap, Washington, Notre Dame, Peoria High, Richwoods and Morton. In addition to Farmington, the 3A field includes Elmwood/Brimfield and Eureka, while Dee Mack (2A), Princeville (1A) and Stark County (1A) will represent in the smaller division. The Rebels of Stark County squeaked in with a 5-4 record, keeping their 22-season playoff streak alive, the best in the area regardless of size.

After this week, the Red Zone will likely switch to Saturday broadcasts, so keep it locked here for the Red Zone Game of the Week presented by Illinois National Bank on 95.5, GLO.
