The big game this year in the small school high school football world is Friday night, when the 6-0 Elmwood / Brimfield Trojans host their Prairieland Blue Conference rivals, 6-0 Farmington. The league title is up for grabs on the final week of the Prairieland Blue conference schedule.

The two, perennially successful programs, separated by about a dozen miles to the Northwest of Peoria, come into our main Red Zone Game of the Week presented by Illinois National Bank with gaudy numbers. Farmington’s defense has given up just 8 points a game as the Farmers have cruised to their 6-0 start and #2 ranking in Class 2A. Elmwood/Brimfield, meanwhile, has scored 60+ points in half their games, earning the #8 ranking in Class 3A.

Our secondary game is in the Mid Illini, where second-place, 4-2, Washington tries to bounce back from its loss last week to Dunlap on the road at 3-3 Pekin. The Dragons are a different team at home this year (3-0) with victories over Sterling and Canton there.

Former Peoria Pirates assistant coach and former Illinois lineman Tony Johnson and I will call the small school classic matchup in Elmwood. Tom Meredith will be in Pekin for some live play by play and scoring updates. Jason Glick produces and tracks the scores from all the other area games in week 7.

Pregame show begins at 6:30pm Friday, featuring coach’s interviews. It’s the Red Zone Game of the Week presented by Illinois National Bank on Peoria’s home for classic rock and football, 95.5, GLO.
