30 years ago this week, Def Leppard fans got their first listen to the band’s monumental, killer album, “Hysteria,” which produced huge, number one hits, like, “Pour Some Sugar On Me,” Love Bites,” and Hysteria.” The album went on to sell a staggering 25 million copies world wide.
Thursday marks 30 years since the Brittish rockers dropped their fourth LP in 1987. Even if you’re not a big Def Leppard devotee, you’ve probably heard most the album’s songs on the radio over the years. “Hysteria” charted an amazing seven singles on the U.S. Top 100 charts.
On the heels of their breakthrough previous album, 1983’s “Pyromania,” Def Leppard was set for super stardom, and they delivered, though it took them three years to record “Hysteria.” And it wasn’t accomplished without tragedy between their biggest albums. Drummer Rick Allen lost his arm in a car accident in December of 1984. The story of his recovery and learning how to drum with one arm while using his feet more is well known and well respected. Another part of the story was that the other band members didn’t boot him and waited for him to return.
A 95-5 Hi Five To Def Leppard on their landmark, 30th anniversary of “Hysteria!”
