One of my favorite, all-time comedians is Lewis Black. I’ve been watching him on TV since his Conan days and laughing at his angst-ridden act since before his rants on The Daily Show. And that “Back in Black” segment is going on two decades now, appearing on the heritage Comedy Central show.
I had a full sheet of topics and questions to throw at him, and we barely skimmed the surface in our 20 minutes. On the phone, Lewis is gracious, thoughtful, humble and lower key than his on stage persona. I think we could’ve continued for an hour, but I felt guilty taking up so much of his time already.
The Voice of Anger, literally – on the Pixar film, is playing Peoria on Thursday, April 27, bringing his Rant, White & Blue tour to the Civic Center Theater thanks to Live Nation. I’ve seen him in person a couple times, and he doesn’t disappoint. Get your tickets at the box office and through Ticketmaster. And listen to Tim and my shows (4/21-4/26) for your chance to win a pair.
Our chat was all over the road, but of course, zeroed in on Trump and our political quagmire. Lewis and Trump are fellow New Yorkers, so Lewis has no shortage of opinions on our 45th President.
I also asked Lewis about similarities with another angry comedian, the late East Peoria native, Sam Kinison. And finished up with his thoughts on the need for an additional political party or two? Here the interview HERE or by clicking on the Podcasts section under Shows at the top of this page. (Warning, the audio file doesn’t open in Chrome.) And remember, this, too, shall pass.
