The schedule makers have done it again. They’ve scheduled the two top games in the two, area large school conferences on the same Friday night. So, get ready for week four coverage that will showcase the area’s four best teams – all four are ranked in the top 10 in the state class 5A poll – meeting one another for the inside track to their respective conference championships. Two huge games that, frankly, deserve to be on separate nights, rather than sharing the spotlight.

In the Mid Illini, longtime top dogs Washington (2-1, 1-0) and Metamora (3-0, 1-0) meet at Malone Field. That’s where longtime Peoria Pirates head coach Bruce Cowdrey and I will be, calling the game that annually decides the conference champion. Tom Meredith will be at Dozer Park for the second annual Shamrock Classic, pitting the top Peoria schools against each other for first place in the Big Twelve when Notre Dame (3-0, 2-0) hosts Peoria High (3-0, 2-0). The only blemish of the twelve games these teams have played thus far is the Washington road loss at state power Morris. Last year’s inaugural Shamrock Classic produced an incredible high-scoring, comeback win for the Irish (celebrating below).
