The weather has cooled a bit and the high school football season has arrived. We’re excited to bring you our sixth season of the best-ever high school football radio coverage central Illinois has ever heard. The Illinois National Bank Red Zone Game of the Week presented by OSF Healthcare kicks off Friday night, shining the spotlight opening night Friday on four top small school teams in our two featured games.
Elmwood-Brimfield, which has reached the state playoffs 12 of the past 13 years, opens on the road at Stark County, which has qualified for the playoffs an amazing 20 straight seasons. The host Rebels were state runners-up a year ago, their third time they’ve reached the state championship game in this long, successful run. E-B at Stark County is our main game of the week, with longtime former Peoria Pirates head coach Bruce Cowdrey and I calling the action from Wyoming.
The Route 9 Rivalry game between Tremont and DeeMac is our secondary game of the week. Former TV sports guy Marc Strauss will have live scoring updates from that big game in Mackinaw. And Jason Glick returns in the GLO studio, producing the hectic broadcast and tracking down scores from all the games as the Friday night lights switch is thrown on opening night.
The pregame show Friday night starts at 6:30 p.m. I’ll have interviews from both of our main game head coaches, Todd Hollis and Jade Noard. Kickoff of both games is 7 O’Clock.
