Biking season is upon us, and the number of cyclists on the road will soon increase. To raise public consciousness of those people pedaling on the street, Peoria will hold the 2015 Ride of Silence.
A nationwide ride on May 20, this free event hosted by the Illinois Valley Wheelm'n honors those who have been killed or injured while biking.
You're invited to join Peoria-area bicyclists as they gather at Upper Glen Oak Park at 6:30 p.m. to get ready for Peoria's version of the silent procession, which starts at 7 p.m. Police will escort cyclists along the 8.2-mile route down Prospect and Nebraska. Riders will average no more than 10 miles per hour.
All participants must wear helmets and be at least 18 years old or 10 with a parent or guardian. For more information, visit the Illinois Valley Wheelm'n website.
