The roads are a mess out there wich means driving conditions are not ideal. The Illinois State Police have offered some driver saftey tips for you so you can be as safe as possible on the road.
Driving on ice: if you happen to hit a patch of ice, remain calm, let off the gas and steer in direction you are sliding. If you do get into an accident, stay inside your vehicle and call 911.
"Even if you have a four-wheel drive vehicle, we recommend that you drive slow, and if you don't have to go out, don't go, wait until it has cleared up. "If you do have to go out, drive slow, take your time, and pay attention to where you're going," said Illinois State Police Trooper Dustin Pierce.
"Never use cruise control you cannot respond properly. In bad weather, I mean even with rain you should never be using cruise control," said Reeder Driving Instructor Gina Cooley
