After a long battle with the Bakery, Confectionery, Tobacco Workers and Grain Millers Union, Hostess Brands Inc. has reached the end. The company will file for bankruptcy and permanently layoff 18,500 workers, including 150 workers a the local Peoria Hostess bakery.

After a November 9th work stopage brought on by the BCTGM union, Hostess has not been able to get its product to the shelves of American retailers and the company has reached the end of the line. So now the world will say goodbye to an American Icon, the 82 year old Hostess company.

Hostess is most well known for that glorious golden, creem filled cake called the Twinkie. They also are the makers of the HoHos, Ding Dongs, Cup Cakes, and brands such as Dolly Madison, Wonder Bread, and Nature's Pride.

A motion to declair bankruptcy has been filed by the company in a Manhattan bankruptcy court. Hostess has requested permission to begin stopping operations and begin taking the necessary steps to hold on to its assets pending a future sale.

It's sad to see an iconic American company such as this meet it demise due to a union labor dispute.

I guess we all should get the final tastes of our favorite Hostess snacks before they are finally gone for good.

Farewell Twinkie the Kid, you will be missed!
