The 2012 IHSA football season is coming down the final stretch of its regular season and the Mid-State 6 conference has one high school standing clearly above the rest: Richwoods High School. Last week, the Richwoods Knights captured yet another Mid-State 6 Conference Championship. Going into the final week of the regular season, the Richwoods Knights hold a 5-0 in Mid-State 6 conference play and a 6-2 overall record. The Knights started the season with 3 non-conference games and posted a 1-2 record. Week 4 began the Mid-State 6 conference play and that’s when the Knights got down to business. In a five game span, going from week 4 until week 8, the Knights are on a 5 game winning streak and have averaged 38.8 points per game while only allowing 8.8 points per game to their opponents in this 5 game span.
Going into week 8 the Richwoods Knights and the Quincy Notre Dame Raiders both had 4-0 records in conference play which led to an epic Mid State 6 conference championship game with the winners gaining full control of the conference title. The Knights entered this game and made it a no contest from the opening kick. The Richwoods Knights defeated Quincy Notre Dame 49-0 to run the Mid-State 6 table and win conference yet again. With that win over Quincy Notre Dame, the Knights became playoff eligible producing their sixth win. The Knights take their 6-2 overall record into week 9 when they will travel to play the Galesburg Silver Streaks.
The Richwoods Knights are on their way back to the IHSA state playoffs. Last year, the Knights made it all the way to the IHSA Class 6A Football Championship but the Knights were defeated by Crystal Lake Prairie Ridge 35-14. So the Knights are on a journey for redemption for last year’s failure. The Knights have looked pretty impressive so far as the Knights have captured their third consecutive Mid State 6 football conference title but the playoffs are where it truly counts. So there are a lot of people out there who are looking forward to seeing if the Knights can finish the job this year.
