Ray LaHood To Step Down As U.S. Transportation Secretary
4:12PM Tuesday
January 29, 2013

Ray LaHood sounds like he is ready to sail off into the political sunset.  LaHood today released a statement that he will not return for a second term as the U.S. Transportation Secretary, reports our TV news partner, WMBD 31.

LaHood will serve in his position until a replacement is found.  He leaves his mark on national politics after serving the people of this area for decades.  LaHood is the only Peorian to serve in a Presidential cabinet and was the lone Republican in President Obama's cabinet.

LaHood served in Congress for seven terms before being asked by Obama to join the administation in 2008.  In his role as Transportation Secretary, LaHood is most proud of his work putting attention on distracted driving.  21 states added laws against distracted driving during his term.  He also championed rebuilding the nation's highway, road and bridge infrastructure, and he helped gain funding for high speed rail travel.

Ray LaHood has no plans to seek another political office.  For your work representing Central Illinois and in the President's cabinet, Ray certainly deserves a 95.5, Hi Five!
