The "haunted" former mental hospital in Bartonville may become a ghost itself. The owner of the hosptial says his plan to turn it into a haunted tourist attraction will not work.

Developer Richard Weiss got a $350,000 dollar loan from village board of Bartonville to turn the abandoned asylum into a tourist attraction. Now, he's saying it will not work and the only way for the town to get its money back is to tear it down and sell off the land

“It’s not the plan we were first told about,” Rhonda Wolfe, the mayor of Bartonville, said this week. “But at least the village is covered and will get its money back if it happens this way.”

The building was recently featured on an episode of Ghost Hunters on the SyFy channel. Weiss has asked the board to decide if they want to tear down the building within 30 days. It could be torn down with in two months. Read the full article from the Peoria Journal Star.
