Man Finds 12 Pound Gold Nugget With A Metal Detector
9:43AM Friday

Jackpot is right! How sweet would this be? An amateur Australian prospector recently found a 12-pound gold nugget while prospecting with a regular metal detector. The owner of The Mining Exchange Gold Shop in Ballarat, Cordell Kent, says, "We have 800 prospectors on our books and only a couple of those have ever found a nugget over 100 ounces. So there's only been one or two big pieces and they were found a long time ago. The prospector is relatively new to the hobby and was totally overwhelmed when he brought it into the shop.'' The nugget is worth $300,000.

I used to go out metal detecting with my dad a lot when I was younger. I collected a nice assortment of old beer cans, bottle tops, dimes and a couple forks. Oh, I did have one unique find. I came across this sterling silver four leaf clover. It has 'good luck' written on one side in several languages. Interestingly enough every time I have ever worn it I have had a horrible day. I think it was buried on purpose and perhaps should have stayed that way. It is pretty amazing that there are still some rare and fabulous finds out there in the world.
