My favorite steak house - I was just there New Year's Eve - will once again be under construction again. Just a year after the venerable Lariat Steakhouse on Glen Ave. in Peoria closed for a period to renovate and create a spacious new bar / waiting area for its patrons, that very space was plowed into late Friday night by a woman who alledgedly was plowed herself.
Our TV news partners at WMBD 31 report that around 11:30 Friday night, 33-year-old Caroline Borden mistakenly put her vehicle's gear shift in the wrong position and pushed down the accelerator, sending her vehicle into the front portion of the steak house after leaving the restaurant. WMBD 31 says she thought her car was in drive, but it was in reverse. The Peoria Journal Star says the opposite, that she meant to back out, but instead drove forward into the building.
Either way, the Lariat's new section is boarded up, but owner Ken Kouri says the restaurant will stay open during the repair period. The driver was alledgedly charged with a DUI.
