Former Illinois governor George Ryan was released from and Indiana federal prison yesterday after serving six years on coruption charges.

Instead of reporting to the half way house in Chicago he was supposed to go to, Ryan instead was allowed to go home to his residence in Kankakee.

Ryans attourney Jim Thompson:

"I think it was a wise decision on the part of the Bureau of Prisons, but it's not something I asked for or something he asked for, so it is in no way preferential treatment," said Thompson. "He's confined to the inside of his house, unless he has specific prior written permission from the Bureau of Prisons to leave."

He still has six months remaining on his sentance and will be checked up on by his counselor to make sure he is at home.
