Coming February 4th we will be saying goodbye to the last of the Blockbuster stores in Peoria. It was announced that Blockbuster is closing 300 more stores nationwide, and that includes the store at 3517 N University in Peoria. These new closings are on top of the 500 stores that Dish shut down last year. The company stated that only around 500 Blockbuster stores remain. It seems that more people are turning to downloading and streaming for their entertainment. I contacted the Peoria store this morning and confirmed that it would be closing its doors Feb. 4th. In a sign of the times, Blockbuster is considering selling smart phones and wireless service at the stores that remain open.
I am one who always looked forward to Tuesdays when new DVD's were coming out. Tuesday night was DVD night for me for years. More and more it looks like a need to get a new hobby......
