Bear Blog: Some Thoughts During the Bye Week
8:21AM Monday
October 15, 2012

The Bears didn't lose this weekend. They didn't win either because they didn't play. The Bears had a much deserved bye week. Here are some thoughts moving forward for the rest of the season.

Were #1

With the Vikings losing this weekend, The Bears are now in sole possession of first place at 4-1. The rest of the schedule looks pretty tough as we still have dates with the Texans,49er's and Packers but I'm thinking maybe it's going to be a 13-3 or 12-4 year. If everyone stays healthy, the playoffs are a definite possibility.

Dominating Defense

The Bears have the number one defense in the League. They're number one in points allowed with an average of 14.2 per game. They also lead the league in interceptions with 13 and are in the top three in take aways and yards allowed per game. When the Bears play great defense, they win games. Hopefully it keeps up for the rest of the season.

Jay Cutler, Man of Mystery

Jay reminds me of former Bears QB Rex Grossman because you never know if your going to get good Jay or bad Jay from week to week. So far, bad Jay has only made one appearence in that game agaist the Packers. Other than that, he's put up ok numbers (1209 yards, 7 td's 7 int) and has played well enough to get the job done. He's not an elite qb but he's probably in that second tier of qb's.

O-Line, Ok

The Bears offensive line is playing ok this year. Cutler is still running for his life but they've managed to give up only 14 sacks this year. That's almost three a game. I would like to see that number down to 1 or even God willing, none. Still, they're much improved from last year and keeping Cutler upright.....for the most part.

More Balls to More Recievers

In my opinion, the Bears need to get more recievers involved on offense. Brandon Marshall leads all Bears revievers with 35 catches. After that it's Alshon Jeffery with 14 and Matt Forte with 10. What about Earl Bennett? He's only got 6 catches this year. I know he's been hurt but when he's out there, they never look his way. You RARLEY see Earl Bennett drop a pass. I feel he's one of the most underrated recievers in all of football. He could get 1000 yards if given the opportunity. Eventually the Bear's are going to have to start spreading the ball around because teams will start to double up Brandon Marshall. Devin Hester is ok but he's not a better option than Bennett at reciever. Get that man the ball!

Stay the Course

Hopefully, the Bears will take the standard "game by game" approach that all athletes say they do. What I don't want to see happen is them get cocky and then get beat down again by the Packers. Lets keep it togather guys.

As For This Week......

The Bears play the Lions on Monday Night Football. Lets hope they come to play like they did against Dallas. The Lions have had some struggles but it seems their team is coming togather with that overtime win against the Eagles last Sunday. It's a divsion game, it's Monday night and the Bears need to come to play. Matt Stafford throws alot of interceptions so look for the Bears to take advatage.  My Prediction: Bears 28, Lions 24. Go Bears!
