One man's trash is another man's art? I'm still trying to wrap my head around why an anonymous bidder shelled out $1.9 million last night for a topless painting of Bea Arthur at a Christie's auction in New York City. But that's what happened according to reports in the New York Post.
Nothing against the former "Golden Girls" actress who passed away a few years ago at the ripe, old age of 86. But of all the former Hollywood actresses we've viewed on the small and big screen, she would be in my bottom ten of those I'd like to see topless, drawn, painted or photographed.
John Currin is the artist who painted his lady near the end of the "Golden Girls" TV run back in 1991, when Bea would've been 69. Arthur did not give her consent for the painting and did not pose for it. I have seen the unsensored painting at gawker.com - view at your own risk. I believe her bra sized at this point in her life might have been 44-long!
