Notre Dame And Peoria High Clash For Peoria Braggin’ Rights On Super Nutrition Red Zone GOW Friday!

The likely two top high school football teams from Peoria meet Friday night in an early season showdown, and it’s our main game in our weekly Super Nutrition Red Zone Game of the Week coverage.

Peoria High laid the wood to Champaign Centennial at their place last week, scoring 96 points (equaling the mark that the 2016 state champion team tallied in one game)! Returning QB Gabe Hernandez threw five touchdowns in 15 minutes. Reigning Big 12 Defensive Player of the Year, Kaevion Mack played sparingly in the opener, but pulled in a touchdown pass nonetheless. Notre Dame, meanwhile, committed five turnovers and lost by 30 at home to Normal West, the other early-season favorite in the Big 12 Conference. That said, Notre Dame’s Wing T offense has given Peoria High problems over the years, and the Irish will be looking to bounce back from their week 1 disappointment.

Tony Johnson and I will be at Peoria Stadium for the Peoria showdown, with the pregame show starting at 6:30 pm, featuring my interviews with both head coaches, Peoria High’s Tim Thornton and ND’s Pat Armstrong. Kickoff’s at 7.

In Morton, the Potters will look to improve to 2-0 when they host Streator. Morton, like many of the area teams, may have lost some star players from last year’s playoff team, but the numbers and depth are strong this year in Morton. Tom Meredith will be there with scoring updates and to call some play by play. Jason Glick produces and tracks scores from all the other area games in Week 2.

The Super Nutrition Game of the Week is presented by Heartland Apartments, Starcrest Cleaners and Brickhouse BBQ, with supporting sponsors, Suiting Up and Peoria Motors. Listen for all the action and updates Friday night from your home for classic rock and football, 95.5, GLO!
