It’s been a while, too long, so it’s good to welcome back our home-state rockers, Styx, to the Peoria Civic Center Theater on Thursday, June 27. Tickets are still available to see the hit-making rockers from Chicago first appearance in Peoria in years. Styx, along with fellow home-state rockers, REO Speedwagon, played on a bill together about six years ago in Bloomington at the Rock to the Rescue Tornado relief concert.

Styx is the first rock band I even saw in concert, on their Grand Illusion Tour in the late 70’s at Cobo Arena in Detroit. Loved ’em then, still do. Ever since I heard “Lorelei” on the radio in the mid 70’s, I was impressed with their sound. The band had a great run, including eight top 10 hits and 16 landed in the top 40, not to mention four straight albums that sold well over a million copies each.

We’ve got a couple more pairs of Styx Peoria tickets, provided by Live Nation, to give away through our free Classic Rewards program…yet another reason to listen throughout the day, as we give you five chances weekdays to gain Classic Rewards points.  Those points allow you to enter into contest for free prizes!

And be listening to my afternoon show to hear sound bites from Styx’ Lawrence Gowan, who essentially replaced Dennis DeYoung about 20 years ago. Styx still features three originals: Tommy Shaw, “JY” – James Young and Chuck Panozzo. It was the Panozzo brothers and Dennis DeYoung who started up the band in the South side Chicago Roseland community in the early 70’s.
